Sixth Form students have study periods. These non-contact lessons must be used constructively to ensure learning and good progress: they are not to be viewed as free time.

Independent study is an essential skill that has to be learned in order to be successful at A-level. There is a difference between study at GCSE and A Level. An independence of mind can only be achieved through reading or researching.

Study lessons should be used for this, and to complete homework set by teachers. For every  scheduled lessons of a subject, a student is expected to complete the same amount of time independently studying, during study periods in school and at home in the evenings and weekends.

Those students in Year 12 who understand the importance of effective independent study have benefited greatly in their progress and achievement. Don't believe us- just ask any Year 12 student!
