What is Philosophy & Ethics?

 

OBJECTIVES

An introduction to the A Level Philosophy & Ethics course

 

OUTLINE

Investigating epistemology through assumption-questioning and a reading of natural moral law.

 

 

 

 

YOUR TASK

 

TASK 1:

Researching Plato's analogy of the cave and assessing its usefulness as a theory. It should take students 1-2 hours. They will write a 750 word essay.

 

TASK 2:

Research the role of women in Christianity and the Church. Research the role of Christian feminism.

Use your research to help you answer the following question:

1.  Examine the different views within Christianity on the role of women. (40%)

2.  Assess the claim that the feminist movement has had very little impact on the role of women. (60%) (Suggested word limit – 1000 for 1 and 2 combined)

Read the novel 'Sophie's World' - it will give a strong knowledge and skill base to start the course with.
